After every wax at LolaBare, I recommend you follow the guidelines below to get the best results and to ensure your skin is cared for properly over the next few days. Remember, some slight soreness, small bumps and redness on the skin is common and should subside after 24-48 hours. These are perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax.

Strip waxing on legs, arms and backs can occasionally cause small areas of the skin to lift, although this is unusual and I take every care to prevent this by preparing your skin beforehand and removing each strip correctly, sometimes skin is just unusually sensitive due to body temperature, medication or exposure to the elements. If you are experiencing sensitive skin or have recently been out in the sun please let me know so we can work together to decide the best treatment for you.

Waxing removes dead skin so you may notice the area waxed looks slightly lighter in colour, however normal colour will return within a few hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Do try to wear loose fitting, clean clothing straight after a wax to avoid aggravating the skin. Clean cotton underwear should be worn after intimate waxing.

Do prevent in-growing hairs by dry brushing before your bath/shower 2-3 times a week. Or you can gently wet scrub the waxed skin using a loofah or exfoliating mitt while in the bath/shower 2-3 times a week. You should start dry brushing or wet exfoliating the area 3-4 days AFTER your wax treatment.

Do sooth and protect the skin by applying baby oil, E45 lotion or my recommended after care prodcuts. This will keep the skin supple and hydrated to prevent in-growing hairs.

Do book your next appointment for 4-6 weeks after your last wax to maintain a smooth appearance and encourage the hairs to settle into a similar growth cycle.

Avoid extreme heat for 24 hours. This includes hot baths and showers (cool to lukewarm water is okay). Heat aggravates the skin while the pores are still open from waxing.

Avoid exercise or gym workouts for 24 hours. Heat and friction will aggravate the skin and open pores.

Avoid public swimming pools, jacuzzis, steam rooms and saunas for 24 hours. This is to prevent exposure to chlorine or an infection while the pores are still open.

Avoid exposure to UV light including sun beds and sunbathing for 24 hours as freshly waxed skin is more susceptible to burning and skin lifting.

Avoid applying deodorant, tanning products, powders or other perfumed, cosmetic or chemical products to the waxed area for 24-48 hours as this may make the skin sore. Avoid putting make-up on after facial hair removal for that day, although mineral make up is okay.

You may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so if this is your first wax. It can take up to four treatments for your hair to get on a regularised growth cycle that gives best results. So don’t be disheartened if the treatment area seems hairier than normal between your first and fourth wax, this is actually a good thing!

Hair needs to be at least 1/2cm long before it can be successfully removed with waxing; please do not shave, tweeze or use hair removal creams between your appointments. I am unable to wax hair that is less than 3 weeks from shaving or 4 weeks from waxing.
