The following are answers to questions I'm most often asked. If you have a wax related question that isn't covered here, please get in touch

The results. Continued waxing leaves a noticeably smooth, stubble free finish and lasts much longer than other non-permanent hair removal methods. Premium wax products are much kinder to the skin than razors or chemicals in depilatory creams.

At LolaBare all intimate areas, facial and underarm treatments are carried out using hot wax. Hot wax is gentler on these sensitive areas as there is no ripping or pulling with a strip. It is a thick wax that is applied to the treatment area and allowed to harden. While it sets it shrink wraps around your hairs, not your skin. It is then quickly removed while the skin is stretched taught which is noticeably less painful than strip waxing those delicate areas. Clients who experience hot wax for the first time are immediately converted.

All other body parts such as legs, arms and back are waxed with high-quality strip wax. This is the type of wax and method most people are familiar with. It’s great for covering large areas and removing fine, fluffy hairs.

On the whole yes but people with certain skin conditions/allergies, medical conditions and those taking some medications should not be waxed or in some cases a GP letter giving clearance is required. This is because the skin’s quality and ability to heal is affected. I can provide more details when booking and this is discussed during your pre-wax consultation.

Under 16s will require parent/guardian written permission to be waxed and that parent/guardian must be present throughout the waxing treatment. Intimate waxing is not carried out on anyone under the age of 16.

Anything between 4-6 weeks and every person is different. If you usually shave, after your first wax you may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week and this isn’t unusual. The trick is not to go and shave it again. It’s worth persevering and waiting at least 4 weeks before your next wax appointment because it can take a few treatments for your hair to get on a regularised growth cycle that gives best results. So don’t be disheartened if the treatment area seems hairier than normal between your first and fourth wax, this is actually a good thing! Don’t be tempted to go back to shaving or creams as continued waxing leads to much slower, sparser hair growth so periods between waxing become much longer.

Hair needs to be at least 1/2cm long before it can be successfully removed with waxing; please do not shave, tweeze or use hair removal creams between your appointments. I am unable to wax hair that is less than 3 weeks from shaving or 4 weeks from waxing. Occasionally new clients tell me their hair is long enough but I can tell it’s only been one or two weeks since they last removed it and on those occasions I will not wax the area. I’m firm about this because you won’t get a good result, the treatment will be uncomfortable and you’ll be throwing your money away. My aim is to make sure you leave with a good wax.

For Brazilian and Hollywood waxes, yes. And that’s a good thing, because a waxer who asks you to remove all underwear is more likely to be thorough and get all the hairs out. Knickers left on, even salon paper ones is awkward and messy, and prevents us from carrying out a perfect wax. I’d also hate for wax, cleansers and soothing oils to ruin underwear.

Usually the anticipation of the hair removal is more painful than the hair removal itself, and regular clients have forgotten all about it by the time I’ve applied and removed the first strip. The truth is certain areas are more sensitive and it feels a bit unusual the first time but, in my experience, compared to tattoos, cosmetic procedures, root canal and giving blood, it’s really not a big deal. I don’t promise it’s completely pain-free but I can make it more comfortable with my technique, high-quality wax products and some deep breaths!

I’m just waxing another body part, I don’t see that it’s an intimate area, I just see hair and wax! I know it’s a bit weird and I understand stripping for a stranger is not for everyone, however once we’re over that initial part, it’s like having a cup of tea with a really good friend.

All I ask is that you arrive for your treatment clean and freshened up.
I advise you wear clean, loose fitting clothes, particularly clean cotton underwear for intimate waxes. Avoid expensive clothes or anything you’d be upset about staining in the event the wax, cleansers or soothing oils come into contact with them.

If the hair on the treatment area is quite long, you can trim or clipper it to 1cm if you want to, as the longer the hair, the more discomfort you will feel.

Yes, yes, yes. I’m really hot on aftercare and it upsets me when clients don’t do it. Our skin is an amazing organ that does clever things to protect our insides so it needs lots of TLC, whether you wax it or not. If you do wax, certain things should be avoided for 24-48 hours and I ask every client to follow an exfoliation and moisturising routine. Those who do it diligently see a noticeable difference, not just to the hair growth but also the condition and quality of their skin. Please read the Aftercare Advice section carefully after your wax.

Things come up and I’ll be as flexible as my appointment book allows to change your appointment, with notice. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, I don’t believe in charging for last minute cancellations but I do believe in courtesy. So if it happens on more than two occasions, I will no longer give you a pre-booked appointment and you will need to contact me on the day to see if I am available.

Clients who simply don’t show for an appointment and don’t contact me will not be re-booked.

Appointment slots are reserved specifically for you and your treatment so if you cancel at short notice or don’t show, the slot is wasted and my appointment book is too busy to accommodate this.

Don’t worry, there is no need to cancel your appointment if you’re on your period. I can still carry out an intimate wax treatment as long as you’re wearing a fresh tampon, but if you’d rather not be waxed then please let me know as soon as possible.
